It's a really well-made game, though, and I played through most of it but never finished it. Mostly, I think, it's the fact that the steampunk genre.just does nothing for me. I'm a big fan of im-sims (Deus Ex, Dishonored, Prey 2017, all my faves) and while SS1 isn't quite one, it laid some important groundwork for the genre I think.Īs for Bioshock, I remember not being as impressed with that game as I wanted to be. I backed the SS1 remake, had a blast with the recent beta demo (played through it twice), and last night I started another run through System Shock 2 in 4K because it felt like it was time. ![]() The atmosphere and the freedom of movement through the station (instead of a linear progression from one level to the next) made it really stand out for me. I'm a grizzled old man who was fourteen when System Shock came out, and I adored that game despite its incredibly wonky controls and its gameplay that was soooo not Doom or Wolfenstein esque. ![]()
